PLACES OF KASHMIR
God has blessed
Kashmir with boundless beauty. Soaring mountains, verdant
valleys, snow capped peaks, glistening glaciers, gushing
silvery streams, picturesque countryside, serene lakes, and
dense pine and cedar forests; nature has truly been generous
in spreading its bounty on Kashmir. Kashmir tour packages
covers all the important tourist destinations-Srinagar,
Pahalgam, Sonamarg, and Gulmarg.
SRINAGAR
Srinagar is the
capital of the state of Jammu and Kashmir in India, and is
situated in the valley of Kashmir. The city lies on both
banks of the Jhelum River, a tributary of the Indus River.
The city is famous for its lakes and houseboats floating
over them. It is also known for traditional Kashmiri
handicrafts and dry fruits. Tourism is the most significant
segment of the city's economy. The city of Srinagar has been
serving as a gateway to some of the most scenic and
beautiful places of the India.
Srinagar is as much imagination as it is fact, for every
season offers new vistas to this city of great antiquity.
Spring breathes life again into a frozen world and the air
is heady with the fragrance of a million flowers that
blossom on trees, shrubs and creepers. Summer heightens the
effect and autumn is poignant in its colours of warm
introspection. Winter brings with it snow, sometimes the Dal
Lake freezes and beneath a leaden sky, roasted chestnuts
turn the atmosphere aromatic with the promise of warmth and
comfort. One can feel the era of Mughal emperors by taking
walks into the World famous Mughal gardens. Shankaracharya –
The abode of Lord Shiva is yet another a famous tourist
attraction of Srinagar.
PAHALGAM
Pahalgam is the
most popular hill resort in the Kashmir valley. Traveling
through meandering roads of north Kashmir, Pahalgam opens up
with a fresh cool breeze of the river. It has an astounding
9 hole gold course open for tourists now being extended into
an 18 hole. Pahalgam is situated at the junction of the Aru
and Sheshnag Rivers and surrounded by soaring, fir-covered
mountains with bare, snow-capped peaks rising behind them.
The Aru flows down from the Kolahoi glacier beyond Lidderwat
while the Sheshnag from glaciers along the great Himalayan.
Since it is rather lower than Gulmarg the nighttime
temperatures do not drop so low and it has the further
advantage of the beautiful Lidder River running right
through the town.
Chandanwadi, Aru
Valley, Baisaran Valley, Betaab Valley, Mamleshwar temple,
etc are the famous tourist attractions of Pahalgam.
GULMARG
Gulmarg has been
named the "Switzerland of India". The Kashmir valley with
Gulmarg, Pahalgam as the prime destinations is remarkably
similar to Switzerland with heavy snow clad mountains and
tall pine trees. Gulmarg is a tourist’s paradise. Gulmarg
meaning the ‘The Meadow of Flowers’ is a huge cup shaped
meadow, lush and green with slopes. The legendary beauty,
prime location and proximity to Srinagar, the capital city
of the state of Jammu & Kashmir naturally make Gulmarg as
one of the premier hill resorts of India. Gulmarg is not
merely a mountain resort of exceptional beauty- it also has
the highest green golf course in the world, at an altitude
of 2,650 m, and is the India’s premier ski resort in the
winter.
All around Gulmarg are snow-capped mountains, and on a clear
day one can see all the way to Nanga Parbat. Gulmarg offers
a range of facilities like golf courses, race courses, ski
lifts, cable cars etc. During winters, Gulmarg is India's
premier skiing resort. Pony rides along the forested slopes
with snow all around, are memorable experiences. One can
walk across to the numerous meadows in and around Gulmarg,
which contain small lakes and tiny hamlets scattered all
over. Besides, there are ample camping grounds right in the
lap of nature.
JAMMU
Jammu, the summer
capital of J&K, has climate similar to northern India.
Popular as Dogras, Jammuites are friendly in nature and born
warriors. For decades, they have paved the way for the
tourists into the State. Jammu is also known as the ‘Gateway
to Kashmir valley’.
KATRA
Shri Mata Vaishno
Devi Shrine is one of the oldest shrines of India, located
at a height of 5300 feet on the holy Trikuta Hills of the
Shivalik Hill Range. The Holy cave is 13 Kms from the Base
Camp Katra. The Town Katra is 50 Kms away from Jammu and 35
Kms from District Headquarters Udhampur and is linked by
road. Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine is one of the most popular
Shrines of India.
The Goddess Mata Vaishno Devi's abode is in 100 feet long
cave with a narrow opening. The holy cold and crystal clear
water washes the lotus feet of the Mata's "Pindian". There
are three natural pindies representing Maha Sarswati, Maha
Lakshmi, Maha Kali, which represent creative, preservative,
and destructive aspects of the Super Power. It is an ancient
shrine whose reference is found in the Vedas and ancient
scriptures.
