LEH LADAKH
Ladakh, a
high altitude desert in the state of Jammu and Kashmir.
Ladakh is bounded by the Karakoram in the north and the
great Himalayas in the south. It is one of the most sparsely
populated regions in India with a blend of many different
races, predominantly the Tibetans, Mons and the Dards.
Renowned for its remote mountain beauty and Buddhist
culture, Ladakh is sometimes called “Little Tibet” as it has
been strongly influenced by Tibetan culture.
It is at a distance of 430 Kms from Srinagar and 480 Kms
from Manali. Ladakh consists of two districts Leh and
Kargil. The district is bounded by Pakistan occupied Kashmir
in the West and China in the north and eastern part and
Lahul Spiti of Himachal Pardesh in South East.
Leh district comprises of Leh town and 112 inhabited
villages.
Ladakh is
a land of endless discoveries. There are many magnificent
sites in and around Leh. You can visit Pangong Tso-One of
the highest brackish lake in the world, Khardun La (pass) –
Highest motorable road in the world at 18,380 ft, 10th
Century Lamayuru Gompa (The oldest Monastery of Ladakh),
Thiksey Monastery – it houses two storeys Maitrey Buddha,
Nubra Valley – the coldest desert in the world.
There are
numerous other breathtaking sites that you can visit and
take home memories that you cherish for the rest of your
life.
It is
said that only in Ladakh can a man sitting in the sun with
his feet in the shade suffer from sunstroke and frostbite at
the same time !
NUBRA
VALLEY
This
valley is popularly known as Ldomra or the valley of
flowers. It is situated in the North of Ladakh, between
Karakoram and Ladakh ranges of Himalayas. Nubra lies at
average altitude about 10,000 feet above sea level. The most
attraction here is Two humped camel ride on the world’s
highest coldest desert. Nubra Valley is accessible by road
via Khardun la-

TSOMO RIRI
LAKE
Tsomoriri
lake is situated at a elevation of 15,000 ft. above the sea
level, at a distance of 240 kms from Leh in the south-east
sector of Ladakh. It is like a pearl shape and contains
large mineral deposits. Korzok village is situated on the
South West Bank of this lake. Korzok Gonpa and its
inhabitants the nomads (Changpas) are most outstanding
features of this lake.
PANGONG
LAKE
Pangong
Lake-Highest Salt water lake, is situated at a elevation of
14,000ft in the Eastern sector of Ladakh, at a distance of
154km from Leh across Changla pass (17,000ft).This lake is
one of the largest and most beautiful natural brakish lakes
in the country. This lake is shared by India and China.
ALCHI
Alchi is
situated at a distance of 67 Kms west of Leh, founded by
Rinchen Zangpo, Translator, in 1000 AD.
KARGIL
Kargil is the most important town in the Suru Valley. KARGIL
(2704 m), 204 kms from Srinagar in the west and 234 kms from
Leh in the east, is the second largest urban centre of
Ladakh and headquarters of the district of same name. |
